I get emails from clients all the time asking about what they should wear, and I do my best to say that being comfortable and yourselves, is number one. It’s easy to go on pinterest, or view other sessions to get ideas (which I highly advise), but being yourself and being true to who you are in day to day life is number 1.
What I didn’t think of was when I would be planning my own maternity session. It’s one of those times where you need to learn to take your own advice and roll with it, and that’s proving to be hard!
My own maternity session is coming within the next 2 weeks and I am super excited (I am not one of those photographers that’s scared to be in front of the camera, that’s for sure), but at the same time, I am nervous because I want them to just plain look good. I have every faith in my photographers, no doubt, but in my own styling is where the problem lies. So, I searched and searched for weeks for the perfect outfits and am hoping they work the way I think they will. When everything gets here (Hello, online shopping) next week, I will be gearing up for everything!
Another thing I should mention for a session is to have your hair and makeup done if you can. Why not get pampered a little and feel and look great. No stress on what you’re going to do or if something you do comes out anything but the way you want it. I’d rather have the stress free part, especially for the maternity session clients. Less stress is best 🙂
So, here is what my inspiration is for my own sessions:
I am leaning more towards a wedge for this outfit, but I do have a pair of brown sandals similar to these that will be an option as well. The jewelery is from Charlotte Rouse, and the skirt is from Nordstrom, but we ordered a more affordable option from The Gap in the same color. A basic white tank will be great for lifting to show the belly, or keeping it covered. The hair, since I’ve been growing it out, will be more of a flowy look and I even have a fedora I may throw on for this outfit as well!
This dress is from Target, in this color….and I love the look of a flowy dress on a lovely, glowing, pregnant woman…so I think this is going to be great for that option. The bracelet is from Charlotte Rouse too, and the shoes are from Nordstrom. I don’t plan on changing hair styles for the shoot, so this will be the same as the other outfit.
So I hope this gives you some insight on how to plan for your own session. Keep in mind the time of year as well, ours is in May so these outfits will work for the weather here. Can definitely wear both in the fall paired with a nice jacket or sweater too!
Can’t wait to show you!
